"Amazed But Not Surprised"
On yesterday, For You Church hosted its first community-wide Back to School Block Party outreach event and the favor, power and provision of the Lord was palpable everywhere. From the time the gates opened until the time the event concluded, people were lining up in droves to be apart of the festivities and events, and the thing is, they were lining up to attend an event that was hosted by a new church!
God is a mathematician and thus the numbers have God's fingerprints all over them. Due to the favor of God, our church was able to distribute more than 250 backpacks full of school supplies, provide haircuts to over 55 young people, and feed more than 300 people across the community. This is a remarkable feat for a church that's new to the Houston scene! Additionally, we were kindly blessed to have 8 vendors during the event as well, each of them providing gifts, raffle prizes, food samples, information and more. New relationships were kindled, ideas were shared and local businesses supported.
This first event was a reflection and an embodiment of all that our church aims to do and become - an authentic reflection of Jesus Christ and His ongoing work in the world. God calls us into a life of service - a life that participates in His work - and that means that we do all that we can to help those who are in need, extend the love of Christ, and set a certain standard of what it means to be a real Christian in these troubling times.
As God continues to form, shape and provide impetus for this infant ministry, I need you to be in prayer for us. I believe that the vision God has given us is so big that our minds and imagination can't even fathom it. Be in prayer that the work of ministry here at this church attracts people to the cause of Christ, to the mission of the church, and to the fellowship of other believers. Be in prayer that God sends abundant resources, provision for the vision, oil for the house, and enough heart, strength and love to do the Lord's work.
